In Mark 14:43-52, Jesus's betrayer arrives right on cue. Jesus had been watching and praying, preparing for the hour fast approaching. His Father gave Him the strength by the Holy Spirit to obey the Father’s will, to face the darkness head-on, and to give His life as an atonement for the sins of His People. Now, the moment has arrived but His disciples are not ready. They had been found sleeping at Jesus’s most desperate hour (v.37-41). Despite their profession of strength and faithfulness to Jesus, their sinful flesh is too weak to be faithful to Jesus on its own strength (v.38). Did they take seriously Jesus’s radical call to discipleship? “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.” Have you?
