The great and awesome Day of the Lord is explained in detail in the prophets and by Jesus himself. It is the day in which God will shake the universe, bring judgement upon every evil thought, word, and deed, and save his people. Jesus’s sermon in Mark 13:24-31 gives Jesus’s own interpretation of Old Testament prophecies from Isaiah 13:10, 34:4, Joel 2, Deuteronomy 30:4, Zechariah 2:6, and Daniel 7:13 (wow!) to show how they will all be fulfilled in His first and second coming. In His Second Coming, Jesus will personally bring about Judgement Day, a day to fear only if we find ourselves outside of Christ, and this is exactly why God tells us that there is a Judgement Day coming!!! “Yet even now, declares the Lord, return to me with all your heart. … for He is gracious and slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and He relents from sending disaster… and it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Joel 2:12, 13, and 32; see Acts 4:12).
