As Jesus prepares and begins His Passover celebration with His 12 apostles (Mark 14:12-21), we might find ourselves asking a simple question: How “in control” is Jesus, really? Something that might cause us to call Jesus’s command over His own life into question is the betrayal of Judas. If he knew that he would betray him in the end, why did Jesus choose Judas as a disciple, and even worse as one of His twelve closest disciples? Why would anyone choose a friend whom they knew would one day betray them?! But John 6:64 says, “Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.” In answering this question, we will see with greater clarity the Sovereignty of God.
