Many people "knew" Jesus in the sense that they were able to recognize Him and point Him out of a crowd. What about Jesus was so recognizable? In a world with no photography, it is surprising that we have been given zero descriptions of His appearance. So how did they know who Jesus is? They saw His power and authority, for everyone who interacted with Jesus saw the miraculous. And yet, they did not grasp who Jesus truly is and thought He is merely some prophetic figure (Mark 8:27-28). If they would have truly known who Jesus is, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory (Luke 23:34; 1 Cor 2:8). But the disciples witnessed something that night out on the lake that the crowds did not the privilege to see: Jesus magnificently revealing His Glory. If the disciples paid attention to what they saw, they would truly come to know who Jesus is.
