In Mark 15:1-20, Jesus is led to another trial, but this time it will be conducted by the Roman Governor, Pilate. This is his civil trial, while the first was a religious one. Once again, his innocence will not protect him from the horrendous abuse he will endure. Why on earth would God allow the only truly innocent man who ever walked the earth, his own Son, to be so mistreated, slandered, mocked, and abused? The reason is only to be found in the plan and intention of God: “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24).
